Meat!

What part of a man am I describing?

  • Every man’s is different although used for the same thing
  • Some men have covers and some men don’t
  • It can take years to learn how to use it properly
  • Some heat up quickly, others take their time
  • Some are huge and some are small
  • All men take pride in theirs
  • Some rarely get used and some all the time
  • Some wish they had a different one and some are happy with what they have

If you guessed “BBQ” you’re right!

Every year at around this time we start to come out of our shell, we squint at the sun in the sky and begin the process of rejuvenating our backyards.  We get excited about going out and buying new plants, dirt, buds, seeds and cutting the grass and we even talk about the outdoor parties we will have this year.  Then we go and take off the cover and say hello to our best friend of the summer, the BBQ, it’s has been sitting out all season just waiting to be used again.  The BBQ needs a facelift, it has probably given shelter to many types of insects for months, getting fatter on the scraps that have been left since last year. So we go out and buy new gloves and steel brushes in order to clean those grills.  We start it up and let it get to 800˚ and keep it there for 10 minutes to burn off all the traces of winter visitors.  Once clean, we sit back and admire our summer friend with a twinkle in our eye.

I honestly think BBQ-ing is a man’s thing.  Don’t get me wrong, I think women can and should BBQ more often but I think they leave it to their other halves because they see how giddy a grown man gets when he is in front of his BBQ breathing in smoke, flipping red meat while drinking a beer and talking to the neighbour.  Every summer we try and make the perfect steak with the perfect grill marks and serve it with the best BBQ potatoes and grilled asparagus; It’s tradition!

So this year, after you’ve brushed and cleaned your BBQ go to your local butcher and farmer’s market and buy the best ingredients for a season full of backyard fun!!

The more you do at home the better…
