Mother’s Day

I think it’s safe to say that we all have a mother.  Some mother’s were there for us growing up and others were working really hard in order to provide us with the things we needed and wanted.  Some of our mothers are still there for us and some are even still providing for us. Laundry, support, a shoulder to cry or the meals that they make for us when we drop by to say hi.  We all have someone to thank for bringing us into this world and we devote one day a year to celebrate our mother and all that she has done for us.

Now here comes the real question…  What do we do for them?  Back in the day, we would get up early, go outside and pick some flowers for a pretty sad looking bouquet and take our home-made Happy Mother’s Day card, set it on the tray and make breakfast in bed for when she woke up, sure it may not have tasted great but it was the thought that counted.  We would clean the house, keep quiet, watch what Mom wanted to watch and try to make their day special.  We did what we could to make our mothers feel appreciated, to do what our mothers do for us, that one day of the year.

Fast forward to the present day.  We take them out to brunch at some mediocre restaurant as a thank you.  Mother’s Day is the busiest time of year for restaurants and we show our appreciation with a buffet.  Buffets that require you to get up from your seat, fill a plate full of food, sit, eat, pay and leave.  Most of us call it a day after that.  Sure we may have purchased a card and a ready to go bouquet of flowers but there is no love in that, is there?

This coming Sunday let’s go back to basics and make a meal at home without the traffic, without the buffet from some chain restaurant, without the store bought tokens of appreciation.   This week, find out what what your mom really likes and make it about her.  Whether Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner make it at home!  What ever the outcome remember this, anyone can buy a meal.  Trying to cooking something at home means you care, it means that you want to treat your Mother with something special and the best part is that your mom will appreciated the effort and the gesture more than you think.  It may even inspire you to try cooking a meal again.

guru cooking inc. isn’t only aimed at Moms who want to cook, it’s aimed at all people, men and or women who wish to gain the confidence needed to conquer their kitchens with confidence not only for one meal but for many meals come…
